Overview

The impression drum creates pressure on the substrate against the ITM drum to allow
transfer and to carry the sheet from the input tray to the exit tray. The sheet is held firmly
by the grippers throughout the one to six press revolutions of the printing process. The
impression paper protects the drum from ink.

Replacing the impression paper

The impression paper is wrapped around the impression drum. The impression paper is
fastened to the impression drum holder at its leading edge and is free at its trailing edge.
It cushions the printed substrate at the printing nip. When a paper jam occurs, the
impression paper can get printed. As a result, the impression paper can crawl towards the
trailing edge. When inspecting the impression paper, pay extra attention to the leading
edge area, and for symptoms of ripping near the grippers window.
Replace the impression paper when it is dirty or damaged, or has moved more than 2 mm
(0.08 inch) from the lower side of the grippers window on the impression drum
(see Figure 12-2).
