The Advanced Settings screen allows you to enable or disable two features of the BRI port,
Alerting and Layer 1 Line Hunting and to configure a static TEI.
Alerting – this feature is relevant for incoming calls routed directly to an endpoint (via
MSN) or to a default extension. When Enable Alerting is selected, the Gateway sends an
Alert message to the dialing WAN terminal if the call is not connected within a few
seconds. This informs the WAN terminal that the call is not yet connected to the LAN
endpoint. As a result, the WAN terminal continues to hear a ringing sound until the
Gateway connects the call.
Enable Alerting is applicable for voice calls only. When Enable Alerting is not selected,
the Gateway connects a call that is not rejected (instead of sending Alert messages to the
caller); note that the Gateway connects the call even if the LAN endpoint has not yet
accepted it. If the LAN endpoint does not accept the call, the call is rejected and is
immediately disconnected from the WAN terminal.
Enable Alerting is selected by default. To prevent the gateway from sending an Alert
message, you must clear the Enable Alerting check box.
