Using the L2W-323 Gateway
Zone prefixes also affect LAN-to-WAN dialing. When zone prefixes are defined, an
endpoint requesting a service provided by a Gatekeeper in another zone has to dial that
Gatekeeper zone prefix.
Example:
20 9 1816455318
Where 20 is the zone prefix, 9 is the service prefix for a voice call in the requested
zone and 1816455318 is the destination terminal phone number, including the area
code.
The requested service has to be defined as Public for endpoints in other zones to be
able to use it. For information on defining Public services, see "Service Access
Control" in Chapter 6, "Advanced Gatekeeper Configuration."
!" Define an Exit Zone Prefix – when you define an exit zone prefix, endpoints in the
zone have to dial this prefix to reach endpoints or services in other zones. The exit
zone prefix can be defined regardless of whether zone prefixes have been defined. For
more information see "Defining Gatekeeper Built-in Services" in Chapter 6,
"Advanced Gatekeeper Configuration."
!" Define a Forwarding Prefix – the forwarding prefix is not specific to LAN-to-LAN
dialing and allows a user to forward calls from a LAN endpoint to another LAN
endpoint or to a terminal or phone on the WAN. For more information, see "Defining
Gatekeeper Built-in Services" in Chapter 6, "Advanced Gatekeeper Configuration."
User Actions
!" Check for zone prefixes – when dialing to another endpoint on the LAN, you may have
to dial a zone prefix or an exit zone prefix if these have been defined. Check with your
network administrator if zone prefixes or an exit zone prefix have been defined.
