LED
Light Emitting Diode. A display technology that uses a semiconductor diode that emits light
when charged. The Gateway's LEDs indicate both correct and problematic operation.
line hunting
The Gateway's ability to search for the first available WAN port that supports a particular
service when the Gateway receives a call request for that service.
logical port
A number that combined with the IP address provides a unique transport address for a
device or application.
Mbps
Mega Bits Per Second. One million bits per second.
MCU
Multipoint Controller Units are H.323 endpoints that allow multipoint conferences to take
place on the LAN.
MCU-323
RADVision's MCU. It enables multipoint conferences to take place on the LAN. In
collaboration with the L2W-323 Gateway, WAN terminals can also join the conference.
MIB
Management Information Base. Stores a device's management characteristics and
parameters and are used by SNMP. The Gateway has its own internal MIB.
MSN
Multiple Subscriber Numbering. When the Telephone Company assigns a group of
telephone numbers to one line. MSN is widespread in Europe but is not available in most
regions of the U.S, Canada and South America.
multicast
In packet-switched networks, the data is sent to multiple users connected to the network or
network segment. Multicast is a one-to-many transmission similar to broadcasting, except
that multicasting implies sending to a list of specific users, whereas broadcasting implies
sending to everybody.
packet-switched
Networks that break up a message into smaller packets before switching the packets to their
required destination. Each packet contains a destination address so all packets in a single
message do not have to travel by the same path. The destination computer reassembles the
packets back into their proper sequence.
