Intranetwork Dialing

The Intranetwork examples describe how to set up the L2W-323 Gateway and Gatekeeper
to support LAN-to-LAN dialing. All references to a gatekeeper in this section are particular
to the internal Gatekeeper. Other gatekeepers may have different functions and
configuration options.
Dialing from One LAN Endpoint to Another
When you set up the Gateway system for point-to-point dialing you must consider the
following:
!" Whether the system has single or multiple zones.
!" If the system has a multiple zone environment, are you going to define zone prefixes?
When the system has a single zone, no prefixes are necessary and dialing is simple. To
reach another endpoint you simply dial the endpoint number. The Gatekeeper routes call
request from within the zone to an endpoint, if the endpoint is online.
The H.323 standard specifies that only one gatekeeper can be active per zone. So, if your
network has a number of zones, you must have a corresponding number of gatekeepers. The
RADVision Gatekeeper allows you to control dialing from zone to zone in a multiple zone
environment through zone prefixes and exit zone prefixes. If you are using other
gatekeepers, zone to zone dialing may be implemented in a different way.
Network Administrator Actions
!" Define Zone Prefixes – you can define up to two zone prefixes for each zone. A zone
prefix operates like an area code. When you define a zone prefix, no calls from other
zones can reach endpoints in that zone unless they dial the zone prefix. When no zone
prefixes are defined, all prefixes, endpoint numbers and aliases must be unique across
all zones. For information on defining zone prefixes, see "Defining Gatekeeper Built-
in Services" in Chapter 6, "Advanced Gatekeeper Configuration."
