Terminals and Group Hunting
Terminals can also register with the Gatekeeper as service providers. This occurs when you
define a service in the Gatekeeper and then define that service prefix for the terminal as an
additional phone number. When the terminal registers with the Gatekeeper, the Gatekeeper
finds recognizes the additional phone number as a service.
When the Gatekeeper receives a call request for this service, it routes the call to the first
available terminal that supports the requested service. This function is known as Group
Hunting. For example, you can define a service prefix of 98 and assign it to all the support
terminals in your Technical Support department. When a call request for 98 reaches the
Gatekeeper, the call is routed to the first available support terminal.
Gatekeeper Services
The Gatekeeper provides several built-in services; these include Forward, Zone Prefix 1,
Zone Prefix 2 and Exit Zone. They are predefined, but you must specify their prefixes.

Exit Zone
Description
Provides call forward services. The forwarding service allows an
endpoint to forward all calls or specific calls to another terminal.
Acts like an area code, to allow users from other zones to reach this
Gatekeeper zone. You can define two different zone prefixes for
each Gatekeeper. When no zone prefixes are defined for the
network Gatekeepers, all prefixes, endpoint numbers and aliases
must be unique across all zones.
When one of the zone prefixes is defined, calls from other zones
cannot reach this zone unless they dial the prefix. When a zone
prefixed call reaches the Gatekeeper, the Gatekeeper removes the
zone prefix and routes the call to its destination.
When no zone prefixes are defined, these call requests are accepted:
!" Call requests to a service defined in the zone and allowed as
Public.
!" Calls to online terminals in the zone.
!" Calls to terminals marked as Forwarded in the zone.
When an Exit Zone service is defined you need to dial it to reach an
endpoint in another zone. This can be useful for restricting the use of
long-distance calls. When this service is defined, the Gatekeeper
only completes calls to another zone if the Exit Zone prefix is present
in the string dialed.
The Exit Zone prefix affects the way in which the Gatekeeper tries to
complete calls to other zones. When this service is not defined, the
Gatekeeper first tries to locate any call request within its zone and
only if the call request is not available will the Gatekeeper try to
locate the designated number in other zones.
