System 75 Small-Cabinet to R8si (Blowback)
Task List: System 75 Small Cabinet to R8si

Relocating EPN port circuit packs

When you upgrade a System 75 XE to an R7si or R8si EPN:
You can need to move and manually retranslate port circuit packs.
An R7si/R8si expansion control cabinet with 17 port slots replaces the System 75 XE control
cabinet with 14 port slots. This provides 3 extra port slots.
However, out of these 17 port slots, nonport-related (control and service) circuit packs may need
to occupy certain slots:
— For an EPN upgrade, you must have a TN768, TN780, or TN2182 tone-clock or a TN756
tone detector/generator in the System 75 XE control cabinet. If you have a TN768 or
TN780, you need to add a TN748 tone detector.
— A TN776 or TN570D must be installed in slot 1 of the new R7si expansion control cabinet
to interconnect the upgraded R7si EPN with the new PPN. Therefore, you must relocate
any circuit pack residing in slot 1 of the System 75 XE control cabinet (usually to one of
the extra port slots in the new expansion control cabinet).
— If the control cabinet in the System 75 XE holds a TN755B power supply in slot 13 or 14,
this circuit pack is relocated to port slots 16 or 17 of the new R7si or R8si expansion
control cabinet (with no effect on available port circuits).
If you have all of the above scenarios, the result is a net gain of only 1 port slot.

Upgrade overview: small-cabinet System 75

When you upgrade a System 75 small cabinet, consider the following:
Many configurations of small-cabinet System 75s are in the field.
Each system can have a unique hardware and software configuration.
How you upgrade a small-cabinet System 75 depends on its present configuration.
To upgrade a control carrier, you replace the small-cabinet System 75 control carrier with a new
R7si enhanced control carrier.
To upgrade a small-cabinet System 75 control carrier and cabinet, you install a new multicarrier
PPN.

Replacing the control carrier

When you replace the control carrier in a small-cabinet System 75:
You may need to move and manually retranslate port circuit packs from the small-cabinet System
75.
A new R7si or R8si enhanced control carrier with 13 port slots and new power supplies will
replace either:
— An R1V3 J58890AB control carrier in a Model 1 with 12 port slots. This provides 1 extra
port slot.
— An R1V3 J58890AA control carrier in a Model 2 with 8 port slots. This provide 5 extra
port slots
Out of these 13 port slots, nonport-related circuit packs may need to occupy certain slots.
