Formatting a flash card

The flash cards are not shipped with a management module If you want to use a flash card, you
must formatted it for the 16 FAT file system before you can store files on the card.
CAUTION
Make sure the flash card is empty or does not contain files you want to keep. Formatting a flash
card completely erases all files on the card.
CAUTION
Once you start the formatting process, you cannot stop it. Even if you enter CTRL-C to stop the CLI
output and a new prompt appears, the formatting continues. Make sure you want to format the
card before you enter the command.
For example, to reformat a flash card in the management module's slot 2, enter the following
command.
BigIron RX# format slot2

Syntax: format slot1 | slot2
The slot1 | slot2 keyword specifies the PCMCIA slot that contains the flash card you are formatting.

Determining the current management focus

For conceptual information about management focus, refer to
If you are not sure which file system has the current management focus, enter the following
command.
BigIron RX# pwd
Flash /flash/
Syntax: pwd
In this example, the management focus is the flash memory.
In the following example, the management focus is the root directory of the flash card in slot 1.
BigIron RX# pwd
/slot1/
In the following example, the management focus is a subdirectory called "test" on the flash card in
slot 1.
BigIron RX# pwd
/slot1/test/
42
2048 bytes in each allocation unit.
