The packet then continues around Ring 1, through the interfaces on S1 to Ring 2 until it reaches
Ring 2's master node. Port 3/2, the secondary interface on Ring 2 changes to blocking mode since
it received its own packet, then blocks the packet to prevent a loop.

There should always be a layer 2 protocol configured in the default VLAN when MRP is configured
with all dual mode ports.

Configuring MRP with shared interfaces

MRP Phase 2 allows you to enter commands such as the following when configuring MRP.
BigIron RX(config)# vlan 2
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2)# metro-ring 1
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-1)# name CustomerA
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-1)# ring-interface ethernet 1/1 ethernet 1/2
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-1)# enable
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-1)# metro-ring 2
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-2)# name CustomerB
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-2)# ring-interface ethernet 1/1 ethernet 1/2
BigIron RX(config-vlan-2-mrp-1)# enable
Syntax: [no] metro-ring <ring-id>
The <ring-id> parameter specifies the ring ID, which can be from 1 – 255. Configure the same ring
ID on each of the nodes in the ring.
