96 Chapter 6: The Matrox Orion modules for 4Sight-II

Video input port

Once a Matrox Orion module for 4Sight-II digitizes analog video, it transfers the
digitized video to the Matrox G450 graphics controller, via the controller's 8-bit
video input port (VIP) bus
The data-transfer rate depends on the video format used. For example, video
captured from an NTSC camera is transferred at 24.54 MHz. Video captured
from a PAL camera is transferred at 29.50 MHz.
Because the Matrox Orion modules for 4Sight-II interface with the Matrox G450
graphics controller, they do not need to have any on-board memory. All acquisition
and display data is stored temporarily in the graphics controller's 32 Mbyte frame

buffer
.
1. In contrast, the Matrox Meteor-II frame grabbers interface with Host memory, via the
PCI bus.
2. In contrast, the Matrox Meteor-II frame grabbers use 4 Mbytes of video-transfer
memory (SGRAM) to store data until the PCI bus becomes available.
