USB interface

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an interface standard, which supports low-speed
peripherals, such as a keyboard or mouse. A single interface can support up to 127
devices.
If you are using Matrox 4Sight-II under Windows 2000, you can connect other
USB devices to the USB connectors. However if you are using your unit under
Windows NT, you are limited to connecting USB keyboards and mice.
If you are using any other operating system, please refer to its accompanying
documentation, to determine if USB devices are supported.

IEEE 1394 interface

The three IEEE 1394 connectors on Matrox 4Sight-II support input from IEEE
1394 devices. Despite being an integrated component on the motherboard, the
IEEE 1394 interface provides identical functionality as the Matrox Meteor-II
/1394 frame grabber.
IEEE 1394 is a very fast external bus, which supports isochronous (real-time)
digital data transfer between peripherals and Matrox 4Sight-II at rates of up to
400 Mbit/sec. To do so, the interface incorporates an 8 Kbyte FIFO memory
buffer. In addition, the IEEE 1394 connectors respect an IEEE 1394 tree topology;
that is, each interface can link up to 63 devices, connected in series or into a tree
1
structure
.
The IEEE 1394 connectors of the Matrox 4Sight-II are not galvanically isolated;
if a surge occurs within a bound series of 1394 devices, each device could be
affected.
For further reading, consult the references listed in the Connecting IEEE 1394
devices section of Chapter 2.
1. Certain limitations exist when using IEEE 1394 devices under different operating sys-
tems. Please refer to the accompanying software manual for more information on the
capabilities and limitations of the IEEE 1394 interface, when using Matrox 4Sight-II
under a specific operating system.
