192 Appendix E: Updating the CPLD program

Introduction

The auxiliary I/O interface is controlled by a complex programmable logic device
(CPLD). In certain cases, this device might need to be updated. This can be done
using the provided utility called Matrox Flash CPLD.
Do not execute this utility unless you have been advised by Matrox technical
support to do so. Running this utility unnecessarily could damage your auxiliary
I/O interface.
This utility should be run from a DOS-compatible operating system. If you have
purchased the Matrox 4Sight-II integrated unit, FreeDOS is included on your hard

disk
. If you have purchased the Matrox 4Sight-II motherboard, you can use a
DOS-compatible operating system, or you can install FreeDOS, which is included
on the Matrox 4Sight-II CD. For more information on installing FreeDOS, please
refer to the software manual.

The Matrox Flash CPLD utility

The Matrox Flash CPLD utility updates the CPLD with a new binary file. The
utility includes the following files:
File Name
flshcpld.exe
fs2io.res
If you have purchased the Matrox 4Sight-II integrated unit, all of the necessary
files can be found in the D:\BIOS directory of the hard disk.
If you have purchased the Matrox 4Sight-II motherboard, and are supplying your
own hard disk, you must copy these files, found in the \BIOS directory of the
Matrox 4Sight-II CD, into the D:\BIOS directory of the hard disk.
1. Use FreeDOS only to execute the commands specified in this manual. Any other task
should be performed while operating under your standard operating system. The out-
come of executing other commands under FreeDOS has not been verified, and
Matrox cannot guarantee the integrity of your unit should you decide to use them.
