Chapter Installing DigiMix This chapter describes how to install DigiMix in your computer as a stand-alone component. It also provides configuration information for all types of DigiMix installations.
Important! The installation instructions in this chapter are to be used only when installing DigiMix as a stand-alone component without any other DigiSuite cards. For all types of DigiMix installations, this chapter provides configuration information in “Set your termination switch” on page 12 “System BIOS settings”...
Make sure your computer is compatible To make sure that your computer is compatible with the DigiSuite cards you’ll be installing, refer to the Matrox DigiSuite Compatibility List. To obtain this list, visit our Web site at: http://www.matrox.com/video. You can also call Matrox Video Products Group Sales at: U.S.
Choose the best installation position It’s much easier to install DigiSuite components if you do so vertically from above. For typical desktop systems, this is easy because access to the expansion slots in such systems is from the top. If, however, you have a tower-type system, it’s best to place the computer on its right side (as viewed from the front).
Page 17
With this in mind, we’ve developed a numbering scheme for identifying each slot position. Since all PCI-based systems have two types of slots, there is always one PCI slot bordering the other type (usually ISA). We start counting outwards from this “border” in each direction for each type.
Set your termination switch DigiMix provides a DIP switch for 75 Ω blackburst termination for the REF IN connection. This is located at the top of the base board near the connection end of the card. Switch 1 position for termination Switch 1 position for Hi Z...
Take care of your Movie-2 bus If, in the future, you add additional DigiSuite cards to your system, you’ll be installing an appropriate Movie-2 bus connector. Please read carefully the section entitled “Take care of your Movie-2 bus—Important!” in the DigiSuite Installation Manual.
System BIOS settings For DigiMix to function properly as a part of your PCI-based computer system, you may have to change certain BIOS settings. The BIOS on some PCI systems allows for enabling/disabling of interrupts, interrupt selection, and enabling/disabling of bus mastering for individual slots. Some newer systems determine the correct settings automatically, so you need not worry about them.
Connecting external devices to DigiMix There are various connection possibilities available to you for DigiMix. Available DigiMix cables The analog component input/output cable (DMX/CAV/CBL) lets you connect either an analog component or composite input source and one recorder. The S-Video input/output cable (DMX/YC/CBL) lets you connect two S-Video sources and one recorder.

DigiSuite software Along with manuals such as this one, your DigiSuite package comes with software consisting of drivers and utilities to make the most of DigiMix’s advanced capabilities. Because the same software is used for all components, the software package is documented in Chapters 3 and 4 of the DigiSuite Installation Manual.

Solutions Ensure that DigiMix has its own unique interrupt (if the system BIOS permits) or ensure that there are enough interrupts available for each PCI device in the system. You must be running either Windows NT, version 3.51 with Service Pack 5 installed or NT version 4.0 with Service Pack 2 installed.
