Introduction

Matrox Orion modules for 4Sight-II acquire color and monochrome images from
standard video sources, and transfer them to the Matrox G450 graphics controller,
where they are stored, transferred to Host, or displayed.
This chapter describes the components that make up the various versions of the
Matrox Orion modules for 4Sight-II. However, if you require technical
information, including the electrical specifications of the input/output signals,
please refer to Technical reference.
Overview of Matrox Orion modules for
4Sight-II
There are presently three versions of the Matrox Orion module for 4Sight-II,
namely /Standard, /RGB, and /Dual.
Matrox Orion /Standard for 4Sight-II captures video in the following formats:
• Monochrome video in RS-170 and CCIR formats, which it converts to 8-bit
monochrome video.
• Composite (CVBS) and component (Y/C) video in NTSC and PAL formats,
which it converts to YUV video.
In addition, Matrox Orion /Standard for 4Sight-II can adjust the color
components of the digitized video (U and V), so that when displayed, the video

appears grayscale
.
Matrox Orion /RGB for 4Sight-II has the same capabilities as Matrox Orion
/Standard for 4Sight-II. It can also acquire component RGB video, and convert
it to BGR32 video.
In addition, Matrox Orion /RGB for 4Sight-II can convert a digitized three-band
image into a one-band, 8-bit monochrome image.
1. You cannot display an 8-bit monochrome image when you are using a color display
resolution.
