Connecting one IDE
device

Connecting devices with a 44-pin ATA connector

You can connect one IDE device that has an ATA-44 connector (such as 2.5 inch
hard drives, or flash drives) to each of the two ATA-44 internal connectors. To
connect a device to an ATA-44 connector, use a flat ribbon cable with a 44-pin,
IDC, female connector on each side.
If you need to connect two ATA-44-connector, IDE devices to a single ATA-44
connector, you will have to make a custom cable. For pinout information, please
refer to Technical reference.

Connecting devices with a 40-pin ATA connector

You can connect one or two IDE devices that have 40-pin ATA connectors (such
as CD drives or 3.5 inch hard drives) to the primary or secondary ATA-44
connectors.
If you want to connect one IDE device that has a 40-pin ATA connector to an
ATA-44 connector, you will need the following items:
• A flat-ribbon cable with 44-pin, IDC, female connectors on each side.
• A flat-ribbon cable with 40-pin, IDC, female connectors on each side.
• A 44-to-40-pin flat ribbon cable adapter (included with your Matrox 4Sight-II
package).
• An accessory power cable (included with your Matrox 4Sight-II package).
To connect the device:
1. Attach the adapter between the two cables as illustrated below.
Ensure that the "arrow" indicators, found on the 44-pin connectors of both the
flat-ribbon cable and the adapter, line up with each other.
Ensure that the "40P" indicator, found on the adapter, is on the same side as
socket 1, of the 40-pin connector.
