Lower Unit
3. Select washer 1 thickness so that the play is within the
specified range.
Specified Value of Play :
0.2 - 0.4 mm (0.0078 - 0.0157 in)
Type of Washers :
3.0 mm (0.118 in) P/N. 353-64032-0
2.75 mm (0.1083 in) P/N. 353-64034-0
2.5 mm (0.0984 in) P/N. 353-64035-0
4. Replace washer 1 between propeller shaft 2 and reverse
(C) gear 3 if necessary.
For removal or installation of propeller shaft
housing, refer to;
"Removing Propeller Shaft" and "Assembling
Lower Unit Parts" in Chapter 6.
Play of propeller shaft in forward-reverse direction
out of the specified range can cause revolution
of propeller even in neutral gear while engine is
operating.
39) Installation of Lower Unit
1. Tilt-up outboard motor and lock with tilt stopper.
2. Set shift rod 1 to up position.
· Apply thin coat of OBM grease to spline of drive
shaft before assembling.
· Apply thin coat of OBM grease to water pipe seal
rubber.
· Lower unit installation can be made easier with
the outboard motor tilted up.
· When installing the lower unit, insert water pipe
into seal rubber properly.
