The recorder is equipped with one RS232 and one RS485 serial
Connections communication port. The RS232 connection requires a standard DB9
female connector and cable. RS232 connections can support cable runs of
up to 50 feet (16 m). The RS232 connections are shown in Figure 2–19.

The RS485 connection is via two-wire (twisted pair) cable and can support
cable runs up to 4000 feet (1300 m). Up to 31 recorders and/or other
RS485 compatible devices may be connected to the line. The type of cable
used limits the data rate and distance. For this unit, 24 AWG polyethylene
twisted telephone cable with a shunt capacitance of 16 F/ft. (52 F/m)
allows the full distance of 4000 feet (1300 m). RS485 connections are
shown in Figures 2–20 and 2–21.
