Rate: Set rate alarms (up to five)
Certain parameters must be set when programming alarms:
1. Set point (for all alarms except None and Abnormal)
2. Contact number (for all alarms except None): Assign a contact number
only if the optional GPIO (contact output) board is installed. For units
with no GPIO board installed, the alarms are visual only, and this field
should be left at zero.
3. Rate in seconds (Rate alarm only): 1 to 600.
4. Alarm Delay: Alarm delay can be set for all alarms assigned to each
point. This parameter helps to prevent a point that rapidly changes in
amplitude and direction from going into alarm. For example, if you do
not want a point to indicate alarm when the point only stays in the
alarm region for three seconds or less, set the delay for three seconds.
This prevents any point that does not stay in the alarm region for more
than three seconds from activating the alarm. Delay can be set from 0
to 600 seconds.
5. Alarm Deadband: An alarm deadband can be set for all alarms for each
point. This setting helps to prevent activation of alarms that are
continuously activated by borderline changes in measured or calculated
values above and below the alarm set point value. See Figure 5–8.
a. Hi Alarm: Once activated, a Hi alarm does not clear until the value
causing the alarm is less than the set point value minus the
deadband setting.
b. Lo Alarm: Once activated, a Lo alarm does not clear until the value
causing the alarm is more than the set point value plus the
deadband setting.
