The RS485 interface allows a recorder to communicate with a computer up
to a maximum of 4000 feet (1300 m). The RS485 interface supports up to
31 recorders linked to a single computer. Each recorder is identified by a
unique unit address (Modbus ID).
1. From the RS485 Block on the Serial Ports screen, set up the following
items as necessary for your communications system:
a. Protocol: RTU (Modbus) or ASCII
b. Float Format: 1 x 32 or 2 x 16
c. Baud Rate: 1200 to 38400
d. Bits/Character: 7 (ASCII only) or 8
e. Parity: None, Odd, or Even
f. Stop Bits: 1 or 2
2. Press Close.
The parallel printer port is not available.
Port
The instrument implements 10/100 Base-T, TCP/IP protocols via a CAT5
cable on local area networks (LANs). There are four Ethernet functions
supported by the instrument:
• Acting as a web server: By using almost any PC-based web browser
(Microsoft® Internet Explorer, Netscape/Mozilla, Firefox, etc.), you can
view instrument status at any time.
• Acting as a Modbus slave device: The instrument can also act as a TCP/
IP encapsulated Modbus slave device. As a Modbus slave, the
instrument can be controlled via Ethernet by a host Modbus master.
The master can send data and/or commands to the instrument(s) over
the LAN. Using a suitable program, a master can periodically pull
monitored process variable data from the recorder in real time and
archive it for later analysis. Another example of this function is when a
plant computer acts as a Modbus master and periodically sends process
data gathered from another source to the instrument for local display
and recording.
• Acting as an FTP server: When the instrument is acting as an FTP
server, you can fetch its configuration file (INI file) via the LAN.
