If the lid of the Thermo Scientific Sorvall ST 40R does not open easily and the centrifuge does not start, follow these steps:

1. Check if there is a power failure. If so, use the mechanical emergency lid release only after the rotor has completely stopped.
2. To use the emergency release:
- Confirm the rotor has stopped by checking through the viewport.
- Unplug the power supply.
- Find and remove the white plastic plug on the left side of the housing using a screwdriver or knife.
- Pull the attached release cord to open the lid.

If there is no power issue and the centrifuge still does not start, restart the centrifuge. If the problem remains, contact Customer Service.

A mechanical override is provided to allow sample recovery in the case of an emergency. However, this should be used only in emergencies and after the rotor has come to a complete stop.
