GLOSSARY-10
Text in which each alphanumeric character is given a weighted
amount of space. Such output has print-like appearance.
Proportional spacing allows more space for wide characters and
less space for narrow characters. See also fixed font.
queue
List of documents waiting to be processed.
The area immediately preceding and following the bar code
symbol. It is considered part of the symbol.
rasterization
Creation of a page's bit map image for printing.
reader/sorter
A mechanical document processor that magnetically/electronically
encodes MICR printing, validates characters and field structures,
separates and groups valid and invalid documents.
Reader/sorters are the banking industry's primary method of
processing negotiable documents (e.g., checks).
reject rate
The calculated value of a sample of checks expressed in percent,
of rejected documents divided by the total documents processed
through a reader/sorter and multiplied by 100. Calculated value
confined to non paper handling rejects and limited to MICR
imaging. A sample is defined as a minimum of 500 checks.
report
Customer printable data stream delineated by start commands.
resolution
Number of dots per unit. The LPS imaging system converts a
character from digitized data into a printed image composed of
these tiny dots. The greater the number of dots per inch, that is,
the resolution, the clearer the image that is produced.
RIP
raster image processor. LPS option that supports the Interpress
V3.0 Publications Set.
scanner
A wand or laser type electronic device used to read bar code
symbols.
scroll bar
Part of a window that allows you to view information extending
beyond the window display.
SCSI
small computer system interface. Accepted standard for
connecting peripheral devices to computers.
SEF
short-edge feed. The movement of paper through the printer in
the direction of the paper width (the shorter side of a sheet of
paper). For the 4635 LPS, short-edge feed allows larger sizes of
paper (up to 11 by 17 inches/279 by 432 mm) to be printed.
Customer encoded data used to provide the IOT with control
information for the bar code reader.
