To terminate the printing of a job or execution of a program
before it completes.
alignment
Positioning of an image on a page for printing.
alphanumeric
Set of characters including the letters A through Z, numerals 0
through 9, and all printable special symbols.
ASCII
American Standard Code for Information Interchange. Standard
7-bit code that represents alphanumeric information. Each
alphanumeric character and several nonprinting characters are
assigned a binary number, covering 128 possible characters. It is
used for information interchange among data processing
systems, data communication systems, and associated
equipment.
assurance
Confirmation that a print job has been completed as intended.
auxiliary menu
Menu that contains options not displayed in a window. The
symbol for an auxiliary menu is a box containing three horizontal
lines.

background job
Low-priority job, usually batched, that is executed automatically
as system resources become available.
backup file
File copied to a storage medium for safekeeping in case the
original is damaged or lost.
bar code
A font, form, or logo that serves as a unique page identifier. Bar
codes help track and monitor individual pages in a given job to
ensure that they print correctly.
A series of wide and narrow bars and spaces used as
alphanumeric representations.
