1. Overdrive shift lever.
2. Overdrive shift lever shaft (139).
3. Overdrive shift lever retaining pin.
• Hold overdrive shift lever back out of the way
using a rubber band (figure 15).
• Ensure the notches that retain the overdrive
fork (137) are to the outside of the case.
4. Countershaft front bearing cup (118) using J 38856
(figure 15).
5. Countershaft assembly (102).
6. Countershaft rear bearing (100) using J 22828 (fig­
ure 16).

• Raise and support the countershaft assembly
(102) while installing the rear bearing (100) to
prevent damage to the front bearing (118).

Measure
Countershaft end play (figure 17).
A. Set the dial indicator up on the end of the coun­
tershaft.
B. Use screwdriver or equivalent to lift counter­
shaft up and down to measure end play.
C. Countershaft end play should be 0.05-0.15 mm
(0.002-0.006 in.).Adjust by adding or removing
shim(s) (123) under bearing retainer plate (127).
D. Remove bolts and apply Loctite® Dri-Loc 201
or equivalent to the bolts and retorque.
