COMPRESSOR CLUTCH COIL AND/OR
PULLEY RIM — 4 POLE CLUTCH AND 6
POLE CLUTCH.
CLUTCH COIL AND PULLEY RIM INSTALLATION AND
REMOVAL PROCEDURES FOR THE 6 POLE CLUTCH
ARE THE SAME AS THE 4 POLE EXCEPT STEPS 1
THROUGH 4 OF THE CLUTCH ROTOR AND/OR
BEARING — 6 POLE
DISCONNECT MUST BE USED.

Remove or Disconnect
Perform Steps 1 through 4 o f CO M PRESSO R CLUTCH
RO TO R A N D /O R BEA RIN G removal procedure but do
not loosen or rem ove the pulley rim m ounting screws
until the Clutch Rotor, Coil and Pulley Rim assembly
have been rem oved from the Front Head. Be careful not
to drop the Puller Guide J 25031 when removing the
assembly.

3. Slide the pulley rim off the Rotor and H ub assem bly The
Pulley Rim and the Clutch Coil (Fig. 23) are replaceable
at this point.
Poly-Groove Drive
Remove or Disconnect
1. Rem ove the clutch plate and hub assem bly as described
previously.
2. Rem ove the pulley rotor and bearing assem bly as
described previously. M ark the location o f the clutch coil
term inals on the com pressor.
3. Install Rotor and Bearing Puller G uide J 25031 to the
front head and install Puller J 8433 w ith Poly-V-Belt
Puller Leg Set J 24092 and rem ove the clutch coil from
the front head (Fig. 24). Clutch coil may also be rem oved
by using rotor and bearing puller guide J 25031 with
puller tool J 25287 (Fig. 25).

Install or Connect
A ssem ble the Clutch Coil, Pulley Rim and the Clutch
Rotor and Bearing assem bly as shown in Figure 26. Use
new screw s and apply sealer GM 12345382 (Loctite 242,
or equivalent) to screw threads but do not lock the screws
in place.
Place the assem bly on the neck of the Front Head and
seat into place using
J 26271- A (Fig. 13).
Before fully seating the assem bly on the Front Head, be
sure the clutch coil term inals are in the proper location in
relation to the com pressor and that the three protrusions
on the rear o f the clutch coil align with the locater holes
in the Front Head.
Install the rotor and bearing assem bly retaining ring and
reassem ble the Clutch Plate and Hub assem bly as
described in "C om pressor Clutch
A ssem bly" R eplacem ent procedure. Check to see that
the clutch plate to clutch rotor air gap is 0.5-7.6m m
(.0 2 0 -0 3 0 " ).
Rotate the Pulley Rim and Rotor to be sure the Pulley
Rim is rotating "in-line" and adjust or replace as
required.
Tighten the pulley rim m ounting screws to 11 N*m (100
in.lbs.) torque and lock the screw heads in place by
bending screw head washer, sim ilar to original crim p and
lock bends on washers.
