3. Tilt cage (19) in opposite direction to remove
opposing bail (17) (figure 38).
4. Repeat this process until all six balls are removed.
5. Position cage (19) and inner race (18) 90 degrees
to centerline of outer race (20) and align cage win­
dows with lands of outer race (figure 39).
6. Cage (17) and inner race (16) from outer race (18).
7. Rotate inner race (18) 90 degrees to centerline of
cage (19) with lands of inner race aligned with win­
dows of cage (figure 40).
8. Pivot inner race (16) into cage (17) window and
remove inner race (figure 30).
Assemble (Figures 30, 38, and 39)

• Apply chassis grease to the ball grooves of the
inner race (16), and outer race (18) (figure 38).
1. Inner race (16) to the cage (17).
A. Rotate cage (19) with inner race (18) to the
outer race (20) (figure 38).
B. Align the cage windows (B) with the lands (A).
Pivot the cage into position (figure 39).
C. Make sure the retaining ring side of the inner
race faces out.
2. Balls (17) (figure 38).
A. Tap on the cage with a brass drift to tilt it
enough to install the balls.
B. Pack the joint with chassis grease.
Important
• Be sure that retaining ring side of inner race
(16) faces axle shaft (12) (figure 30).
3. Install outer joint seal. Refer to "Outer Joint Seal"
in this section.

J 35910 Seal Clamp Tool

SLIDE SPACER RING INTO GROOVE ON
AXLE SHAFT

1. Retaining clamp protector from larger seal retaining
clamp (9) (if so equipped).
2. Larger seal retaining clamp (9) from tripot joint
using chisel, and discard.

3. Small seal-retaining clamp (11) from axle shaft (12)
with side cutter, and discard.
SLIDE SPACER RING AND
SPIDER ASSEMBLY BACK ON
SHAFT. REMOVE RETAINING RING
AND SLIDE SPIDER ASSEMBLY

• Do not cut through seal (10) and damage seal­
ing surface of tripot outer housing (1) with chis­
el.
