1. Gasket (242) to the front cover.
2. Injection pump (244).
3. Throttle spring bracket (228) (if equipped).
4. Nuts (225). Leave finger tight until the injection
pump timing is adjusted.
5. Injection pump gear (246). Align the slot in the
injection pump gear with the locating pin on the
injection pump hub (271).
Important
• Align the timing marks. Be certain the mark on
the injection pump gear (241) is aligned with
the mark on the camshaft gear (88). For the
proper timing of the injection pump, cam gear
timing mark must be in the 12 o'clock position.
Rotate the crankshaft to bring the cam gear
timing mark up to the 12 o'clock position (figure
74).
6. Bolts (238).
Tighten
• Bolts (238) to 25 N-m (20 lbs. ft.).
7. Wires and hoses at the injection pump.
Adjust (Figure 80)
Injection pump timing. For the engine to be proper­
ly timed, the marks on the top of the engine front
cover must be aligned with the marks on the injec­
tion pump flange (figure 80). The engine must be
off when the timing is reset.
Tighten
a
Nuts (225) to 40 N-m (30 lbs. ft.) (figure 74).

Clean
Sealing surfaces on the coolant pump plate and
block. Use carburetor cleaner or equivalent.

1. Coolant pump (60) and gasket (52) to the coolant
pump plate (50).
2. Bolts (72).
Tighten
• Bolts (72) to 22 N-m (16 lbs. ft.).
•A p p ly a bead of an ae ro b ic seale r (GM P/N
1052357) or equivalent to the coolant pump plate
as shown in figure 81.
3. Coolant pump plate to the engine. The sealer must
be wet to the touch when installing the plate.
•A pply sealant (GM P/N 1052080) or equivalent to
the threads of bolts and studs (70).
4. Bolts and studs (70).
Tighten
&
A. Coolant pump to front cover bolts to 42 N-m (32
lbs. ft.).
B. Coolant pump plate to front cover bolts to 22
N.m (16 lbs. ft.).
5. Oil filler neck (63) and nuts (64).
