• Connecting rod bearing clearance. Refer to

4. Connecting rod bolt nuts.
Tighten
• Connecting rod bolt nuts to 27 N-m (20 lbs. ft.).
• Connecting rod bolt nuts an additional 70
degrees using J 36660.
Measure

Connecting rod side clearance (figure 46). The
proper clearance is 0.15-0.35 mm (0.006 to 0.014
inch).
O IL PUMP INSTALLATION

Install or Connect
1. Oil pump to the engine.
A. Align the slot in the oil pump shaft with the tang
on the distributor shaft.
B. The oil pump should slide easily into place.
C. No gasket is used.
NOTICE: Refer to "Notice" on page 6A4-1.

. Oil pump to main bearing cap bolt.
Tighten
• Oil pump to main bearing cap bolt to
(65 lbs. ft.).

OIL PAN INSTALLATION

Install or Connect (Figures 47 and 48)
•A pply sealant (GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent) to
the front cover to block joint and to the rear crank­
shaft retainer seal to block joint. Apply the sealant
about 25 mm (1 inch) in both directions from each
of the four corners (figure 47).

. Oil pan gasket (27) to the oil pan (29).

. Oil pan (29) to the engine.
NOTICE: Refer to "Notice" on page 6A4-1.
3. Oil pan reinforcements (28), bolts, and nuts.
Tighten
&
Bolts to 11 N-m (100 lbs. in.).
Nuts to 23 N-m (17 lbs. ft.).
