4. Connecting rod cap nuts.
Tighten
Connecting rod cap nuts to 65 N-m (48 lbs. ft.).
Measure Clearance (Figure 72)
• Connecting rod side clearance. Use a feeler
gage between the connecting rod and crank­
shaft (figure 72). The correct clearance is
0.17-0.63 mm.

Measure TDC On Front Cover (Figures 73,
74, and 75)
Tool Required:
J 33042 Timing Fixture
1. Set the engine so that number 1 cylinder is at TDC
(firing).
Rod
A. Use short pieces of 10 mm (3/s-inch) hose to
protect the crankshaft journal.

2. Install J 33042 in the injection pump location (fig­
ure 73).
• Do not use the gasket.
3. Set the injection pump gear (241) (figure 74) in
place, aligning the timing marks on the injection
