CHECK ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (CHECK FOR SHORT IN SENSOR)

2GR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM – SFI SYSTEM
(a) Disconnect the C4 ECT sensor connector.
(b) Disconnect the C55 ECM connector.
(c) Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard resistance
Tester Connection
THW (C55-79) - C4-2
ETHW (C55-78) - C4-1
(d) Reconnect the ECM connector.
(e) Reconnect the ECT connector.

(a) Disconnect the C4 ECT sensor connector.
(b) Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
ECM
(c) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
(d) Turn the tester on.
(e) Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED
OBD II / DATA LIST / PRIMARY / COOLANT TEMP.

(f) Read the value displayed on the tester.
Standard:
ETHW
-40°C (-40°F)
(g) Reconnect the ECT sensor connector.
