IGNITION SYSTEM
Inspect the following before diagnosing the system.
- Faulty spark plug
- Loose spark plug cap or spark plug wire connections
- Water got into the spark plug cap (Leaking the ignition coil secondary voltage)
If there i s no spark at cylinder, temporarily exchange the i g nition coil with the other good one and perform the spark
test. I f there is spark, the exchanged i g nition coil is faulty.
No spark at spark plug
UNUSUAL CONDITION
PROBABLE CAUSE (Check in numerical order)
Ignition coil
Low peak voltage
1 . I n correct peak voltage adaptor connections. (System i s normal if
primary voltage
measured voltage i s over the specifications with reverse connec-
tlcns.)
2. The multimeter impedance is too low; below 1 O Mn/DCV.
3. Cranking speed i s too l o w.
4. The sampling timing of the tester and measured pulse were not
synchronized. (System is normal if measured voltage i s over the
standard voltage at l e ast once.)
5. Poorly connected connectors or an open circuit in ignition sys-
lem.
6. Faulty exciter coil (Measure the peak voltage).
7. Faulty i g nition control module (ICM) (in case when above No. 1
thru. 6 are normal.)
No peak voltage
1 . I n correct peak voltage adaptor connections.
2. Faulty i g nition switch or engine stop switch.
3. Loose or poorly connected ICM connectors.
4. Open circuit or poor connection in ground wire of the I C M.
5. Faulty peak voltage adaptor.
6. Faulty exciter coil (Measure the peak voltage).
7. Faulty i g nition pulse generator (Measure the peak voltage).
8. Faulty ICM (in cases when above No. 1 - 7 are normal).
Peak voltage is normal, but no

2. Faulty ignition coil.
Exciter coil
Low peak voltage
1 . Multimeter impedance i s too low; below 10 Mn/DCV.

Operating force at the kickstarter i s weak .

not synchronized (System is normal i t measured voltage i s

Operating force of the kickstarter i s weak .
3. The sampling timing of the tester and measured pulse were not
synchronized (System i s normal if measured voltage i s over the
