CYLINDER HEAD/VALVES
TOOL:
Valve guide driver, 5.5 mm
07742-0010100
VALVE GUIDE DRIVER
Let the cylinder head cool to room temperature.
Apply engine oil to the new 0-rings and i n stall the 0-rings to
the new guides.
Drive new guides in the cylinder head from the camshaft side
while the cylinder head i s still heated.
Ream the new valve guides.
TOOL:
Valve guide reamer, 5.485 mm

NOTE:

Take care not to tilt or l e an the reamer i n the guide while
reaming. Otherwise, the valve is i n stalled slanted, that
causes oil leaks from the stem seal and i m proper valve
seat contact and results i n the valve seat refacing not able
to be performed.
Insert the reamer from the combustion chamber side of
the head and always rotate the reamer clockwise.
Use cutting oil on the reamer during this operation.
Clean the cylinder head thoroughly to remove any metal
particles after reaming and reface the valve seat.

INSPECTION
Clean all i n take and exhaust valves thoroughly to remove car-
bon deposits.
Apply a l i ght coating of Prussian Blue to each valve face.
Tap the valve against the valve seat several times using a
hand-lapping tool. without rotating the valve, to make a clear
pattern.
Remove the valve and i n spect the valve seat face.
NOTE:
The valve cannot be ground. If the valve face is burned or
badly worn or
if it
contacts the seat unevenly, replace the valve.
Inspect the valve seat face for:
Uneven seat width:
- Bent or collapsed valve stem;
Replace the valve and reface the valve seat
Damaged face:
- Replace the valve and reface the valve seat
