LUBRICATING OIL THERMOSTATS
The thermostat three--way valve is equipped with two elements. In a cold condition,
the thermostatic elements are closed and hardly no oil flows through the heat
exchanger. When the temperature of the oil rises, the wax elements expand, and
causes the element to open against spring pressure, so that the passage to the heat
exchanger is released.
If the oil becomes excessively hot or remains too cold, the two thermostatic wax
elements must be examined.

2. 1. Drain the lubricating oil by removing the drain plug from the thermostat
housing (proceed carefully when the engine is still hot).
2. 2. Remove the thermostat covers.
2. 3. Place the wax element in a basin filled with water. Heat the water and with
the aid of a calibrated thermometer check whether the element opens at the
correct temperature. If the element does not open at the correct
temperature, it must be renewed.
2. 4. Refit all parts in the reverse order.
