FITTING
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
1. When fitting a new or honed cylinder liner,
the piston rings must be renewed.
Proceed as follows.
2. First, clean the liner collar carefully inside
and outside as well as the location of the
O--ring seals.
3. Check the supporting edge and the gas
sealing face of the cylinder liner for
damage.
The gas sealing face can be ground with
the grinding ring.
4. Apply Molykote G--n--plus paste:
Attention!
When fitting a cylinder liner, always use
new O--rings. Fit the O--rings with silicone
grease. Stretch the O--rings as little as
possible. The O--rings may not be twisted
after they have been fitted.
Apply a thin, even film of Molykote
G--n--plus paste, as shown in the figure.
Remove any excess paste.
5. Clean the cooling water spaces in the cylinder block and inspect them.
6. Clean the supporting face and the lower and upper bores of the cylinder block.
Check the supporting face and the bores for damage.
The supporting face can be ground with the grinding ring.
7. Hoisting the cylinder liner:
7. 1. Hoist the cylinder liner into the cylinder block with the aid of the flanges, the
threaded rod and nuts.
It may be necessary to push the cylinder liner into its recess to make it fit. This
can be done using a bridge piece over the cylinder head studs as shown.
This is not a standard delivery tool.
7. 2. Detach the hoisting gear.
8. Fit piston and con rod assembly. See section 16K.
9. Fit cylinder head. See section 18C.
