FITTING OF PISTON RINGS

FITTING OF PISTON RINGS
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA" .
1. Attention!
-- When renewing the piston rings the cylinder liner has to be honed.
-- Fit the piston rings in the correct order (see spare parts manual).
-- Fit the piston rings with the code numbers on topside.
-- The scraper ring consists of an outer ring and an inner spring.
Place first the inner spring in the piston ring groove and then the outer ring. The
gap of the scraper ring has to be fitted opposite the partition of the inner spring.
2. Carefully clean all parts.
Never use sharp or hard materials for cleaning the aluminium skirt!
3. Fitting the piston rings:
3. 1. Tension supporting plate B by means of lever A.

3. 2. Place the piston ring on supporting points B, C and D with the protrusions E
between the gap of the piston ring.
3. 3. Tension the piston ring pliers by moving the handle F inwards and place the
piston ring into the piston ring groove. Release the tension by loosening
handle F and lever A.
Remove the piston ring pliers.
3. 4. Repeat this procedure for the other piston rings.
4. Position the piston rings, so that the gaps are about 180G from each other and
above the gudgeon pin bore.
