3. Cleaning the air
filter

The filter must be cleaned from time to time. The frequence with which this must be
done depends on the dust content of the suction air and the number of running hours
of the engine.
3. 1. The filter element can be removed by unscrewing the wing nuts and taking
off the cover.
3. 2. Before flushing the filter element in a hot soda solution or any other fat--dis-
solving liquid, any loose dirt should first be shaken off.
3. 3. The element must then be allowed to dry thoroughly, immersed in lubricating
oil and left to drain at room temperature for a period of 12 to 24 hours.
Note:
The filter may on no account be exposed to an open flame or great heat.
3. 4. To avoid suction of false air the wing nuts must be well tightened when reas-
sembling the filter.
