LUBRICATION OF INLET VALVE SEATS

LUBRICATION OF INLET VALVE SEATS
To minimize wear of inlet valves and inlet valve seats some oil is automatically supplied
to the air inlet duct just before the inlet valves. The oil is atomized by the charge air,
passing with high speed through the air inlet duct.
The lubricating oil in container C, will be kept at a constant level by means of an
overflow which is connected to the crankcase. The lubricating oil to the dosing valves
B will be supplied by pneumatic plunger pump D.
When running an engine on low load the charge air pressure is low and the lubrication
will be switched off automatically by pressure switch A.
When the plunger is pressed upwards by means of compressed air, the oil will be
forced into the delivery line via the non--return valve. When the plunger piston
descends, oil from the delivery line will flow back via the ball valve until the delivery
line has been relieved of pressure.
The oil supplied by the pneumatic pump will force a plunger in dosing valve B down
against the pressure exerted by a spring. This enables the oil to reach the valves via
the non--return valve. As the plunger "floats" in the dosing valve tanks to a loose fit,
oil can return to the inlet side when the spring pressure causes the plunger to ascend
after the delivery stroke of pneumatic plunger pump D.

2. 1. Run the engine under load so that the charge air pressure is higher than 0.8
bar. The inlet valve lubricating system is activated by switch A.
2. 2. Disconnect the oil supply line after dosing valve B on cylinder 1.
2. 3. If the system functions properly, a small amount of oil will emerge from the
dosing valve every 20 seconds.
2. 4. Reconnect the oil supply line to the dosing valve.
