REMOVAL

REMOVAL
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
1. Drain the cooling water by removing the plug located in the cylinder block behind the
H.T. cooling water pump. The cooling water should be preferably be stored for
re--use.
2. Remove the valve rocker covers and disconnect all pipes fitted to the cylinder head.
3. Bar the engine over to the position where the inlet and exhaust valves of the cylinder
involved are closed, T.D.C. of the firing stroke.
4. Removal of the cylinder head
4. 1. Remove the valve rockers, push rods, bridge pieces, and pyrometer, as well as
the nozzle holder clamp and the nozzle holder.
4. 2. After having removed the nozzle holder, always check to make sure the nozzle
holder bush is still tightened to the correct torque. When doing this, never first
undo the bush not even a little, as this will cause cooling water leakage into the
cylinder, just tighten it.
5. Loosening the cylinder head:
5. 1. Loosen the cylinder head stud nuts in two
stages, observing the sequence A, B, C, D, E
and F in both stages:

Loosen the bolts complete
6. Remove the cylinder head and be careful not to
damage the sealing faces.
Proceed as follows :
6. 1. Place the holding fixture for valve spring
positioning and removal over the stud for the
nozzle holder clamp and secure it with the nut.
6. 2. Attach a hoisting belt to the holding fixture and
carefully lift the cylinder head off the cylinder block.
