CHECKING VALVE TIMING

CHECKING VALVE TIMING
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
The inlet and exhaust valve timing can to be checked for instance after positioning the
camshaft. Valve diagram for the camshafts:

3. Turn the crankshaft in the direction of rotation to neutralise the backlash, to Top
Dead Centre of the compression stroke of the corresponding cylinder. Make sure
that the valves are closed, so the push rods can be turned freely.
4. Set the valve clearance of the inlet and exhaust valves to 0 mm.

5. Measuring the cam lifting:
5. 1. Place the dial gauge on the exhaust rocker arm exactly above the pushrod.
5. 2. Set the dial gauge to 0 mm.
5. 3. Turn the engine in the direction of rotation until the dial gauge indicates
4.03 mm.
5. 4. Take a reading of the number of crank degrees. The value found has to be 15
before Bottom dead centre, permitted tolerance is 1
