PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD

16K FITTING PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
1. Clean all parts thoroughly.
Whilst cleaning the piston, do not use sharp or hard tools. Make sure that the four oil
passages situated under the oil scraper ring are clean. These are used to discharge oil
to the inside of the piston.
2. Hoisting the piston with connecting rod into the engine:
2. 1. Attach the hoisting ring A, to
the piston with the aid of two
fixing bolts. The eye bolt faces
must be level with the top of the
piston.
2. 2. Hoist piston and connecting
rod above the cylinder liner.
Attention!
The
connecting
marked
with
number
the
facing to the camshaft side.
2. 3. Lubricate piston skirt and
piston rings sparingly with
clean engine oil.
2. 4. Check that the gaps in the
piston rings are still in the same
position.
2. 5. Position the clamping
ring, F.
With the lips pointed to the
gudgeon pin side. The lips
serve to hold the assembly in
place on the cylinder liner.
2. 6. Fit the upper bearing shell into the connecting rod foot. The upper bearing shell
is the one with no oil groove.
Check that the bearing shell position lug is in its slot at the connecting rod foot
recess.
Place two holding plugs, item 8, diagonally opposite each other in the
connecting rod foot to prevent the bearing shell from falling out.
2. 7. Hoist the piston and connecting rod assembly into the liner till the gudgeon pin.
Make sure the connecting rod cylinder number is facing the camshaft side.
2. 8. Remove the protection from the crank pin and clean the crank pin.
2. 9. Lubricate the crankpin sparingly with clean lube oil.
2. 10.Turn the crankshaft to Top Dead Centre.
