BARRIER OIL SYSTEM HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS

BARRIER OIL SYSTEM HP FUEL PUMPS
The barrier oil system for the HP fuel pumps (if applicable) forms part of the main oil
lubrication system.
In order to prevent fuel leaking along the plungers into the camshaft housing, a groove
around the plunger piston is filled with lubricating oil under pressure. The pressure of
this lubricating oil is higher than the fuel supply pressure.
This sealing is called the barrier oil system.
The barrier oil also lubricates a part of the plunger piston.
Attention!
Shut off the fuel supply to the engine when the engine is not in operation for a long
period and when the barrier oil system is not pressurized by a pre--lubrication pump.
2. 1. When the engine is in operation, the
pressure indicators for engine lubricating
oil and barrier oil pressure must have
practically the same readings.
2. 2. Stopping the engine.
The pointer of the barrier oil pressure indicator
may not fall noticeably.
