FITTING OF GUDGEON PIN

FITTING OF GUDGEON PIN
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION".
1. Clean all parts carefully prior to fitting. Take care not to damage the aluminium
piston skirt! Never use emery cloth.
2. Place the piston crown on a wooden block.
3. If both inner circlips have been removed, fit one inner circlip with the open end
towards the bottom side of the piston in order not to block the oil drain holes.
4. Place the gudgeon pin into the gudgeon pin bore of the piston until the first oil
channel of the gudgeon pin is visible.
If the gudgeon pin sticks, it is allowed to heat the aluminium skirt evenly to about
o
30
C above the ambient temperature.
5. Sparingly lubricate the gudgeon bore of the connecting rod with engine oil.
6. Attention!
Take care that the connecting rod has the correct position with respect to the
protrusion in the piston skirt.
Looking at the cylinder number of the connecting rod, the protrusion must be on the
left--hand side.
Carefully lower the connecting rod until it just rests on the gudgeon pin and push
the gudgeon pin further until it touches the circlip.

7. Fit the second circlip in the same way as the first one.
