FITTING

Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
1. Clean the sealing faces of the cylinder head and cylinder liner very thoroughly. If
necessary grind faces using a grinding ring.
2. Make sure all parts are in perfect condition.
3. Fit new gas sealing ring and new rubber ring. Do not oil or grease the gas sealing ring.
4. Fit V--ring seals around the cylinder head studs. These will prevent dirt and/or water
from entering the stud holes. There are 6 V--ring seals per cylinder.
Position locating rings (4 per cylinder) around the cylinder head studs C--D--E--F to
centre the cylinder head.
5. Place cylinder head gently on cylinder liner.
6. Clean the nuts, washers and contact faces
thoroughly and lubricate them sparingly with
oil.
7. Tighten the nuts by hand. Never restore the
screw thread on the studs with a thread cutting
die, as this thread is rolled, and cutting will
destroy it.
8. Secure the nuts as instructed under the
tightening procedure in the Technical Data.
9. Connect all pipes to the cylinder head.
10. Add cooling water up to the required level and
make sure this water is given the proper treatment.
11. Fit bridge pieces, valve rockers, push rods, nozzle holder and nozzle holder clamp.
The valve rockers need to be tightened to a torque specified in the Technical Data.
12. Adjust valve clearance, see 18G.
Remark:
The cylinder head studs under the dust cap have plastic caps on the nuts to prevent
oil leakage along the studs.
