ADJUSTMENT OF VALVE CLEARANCE

ADJUSTMENT OF VALVE CLEARANCE
Proper adjustment of the valve clearance will prolong the life of the valves and the
valve seats.
A correct valve clearance gives the various components of the valve lift mechanism
sufficient space to expand with increasing material temperatures.
clearance can only be checked and corrected when the engine components have the
same temperature. The clearances are the same for both inlet and exhaust valves.
Before starting work, please consult:

2. 1. Remove the valve cover.
2. 2. Turn the piston in TDC in the firing stroke, there is no load on the valve
springs and the pushrods.
2. 3. Loosen locking nut (A) of the adjustable pivot in the valve lever and loosen
the adjustable pivot a few turns.
2. 4. If present, remove the oil film between the pivots by tapping a few times with
a plastic hammer on the ends of the valve levers.
2. 5. Place two feeler gauges of equal thickness, as mentioned in chapter 3 --
technical data -- between the pivots under the bridge piece and the upper
surface of the valve stems.
