Tool A.
Dummy for the compensator. When replacing a compensator, a dummy is used for
aligning the exhaust pipe flanges.
Tool number 6104 F 457: 66562--001
Tool number 6104 F 459: 66562--004
Practice has shown that a new compensator may rapidly become defective because
of misalignment of the connecting flanges causing the inner sleeve to vibrate against
the inside of the compensator, and cause the compensator to rupture.
This can be prevented by aligning the exhaust gas pipe with dummy A without gaskets.
Before a new compensator is installed the position of the exhaust flanges relative to
each other should be checked.
By calculating the length of the dummy, the pre--tension and the thickness of the
gaskets is acounted for. Make ssure that the two flanges are exactly parallel, and that
the bolt holes are in alignment.
2. 1. Make sure that the connecting flanges and the expansion joint are clean and
undamaged.
2. 2. Mind the direction of the gas flow.
Fit the exhaust compensator using two new gaskets.
Smear Molycolte, or another anti seize compound to the bolts.
2. 3. Tighten the nuts evenly and diagonally.
