VALVES
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
1. 1. Remove cylinder head -- see section 18B.
1. 2. Remove valve springs -- see section 18E.
1. 3. Remove valve.
Note :
Make sure the valve keepers, spring cup, valve and spring clip of each valve
are kept together. The spring clips for inlet-- and exhaust valves are
different.Holding fixture, item 1. This is the fixture which bolts down over the
injector clamp stud, and is both used for the lifting of the cylinder head from
the cylinder liner, and in order to press down on the pressure pad.
Tool number : 9612F255
2. 1. Check the clearance between valve stem and valve guide.
(This must be less than 0.20 mm over at least 3/4 of the valve guide length).
2. 2. Pay attention to the No Go dimension limits.
2. 3. Polish the valve stem top at the valve locking split cone using "grain 360"
abrasive linen, until it is smooth.
2. 4. Examine the valve stem top and valve disc for (hairline) cracks by
Magnafluxing (radial magnetisation). If any cracks are found, the valve must
be scrapped.
2. 5. Demagnetise the valve.
2. 6. Check the valve seat. Machine valve and valve seat if necessary.
2. 7. Clean the valve and the valve seat.
3. 1. Place valve in position.
3. 2. Slide spring clip for exhaust valves in the groove of the valve stem. For the
inlet valves below the groove of the valve stem.
3. 3. Fit the valve springs -- see section 18F.
