INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
Inspection and maintenance procedures are described in this section.
The total running hours between the overhauls as well as the effective life of components
are guide lines and depend on the following aspects:
--
the operation and the maintenance of the engine in accordance with instructions
as specified in the engine documentation ;
--
make sure that everyone concerned with the maintenance of the engine is trained
and qualified, has this engine documentation available, reads it and understands
it ;
--
to guarantee the best efficiency, reliability and lifetime of the engine and its
components, only original spare parts should be used ;
--
the load of the engine is between 60% en 100% of the output indicated on the
engine type plate with 3,000 to 6,000 running hours per year ;
--
the fuel quality ;
--
the lubricating oil quality ;
--
the humidity of the air ;
--
environmental conditions like temperatures and vibrations;
Strong deviation from one of the above described factors should result in adaptation of
the running hours between the overhauls and/or the effective life time of the components.
Some remarks about the procedures described in this chapther:
--
The operations to be carried out are subdivided into groups. In a number of cases
you will find cross references, namely:
-- 4A
-- 10--
-- PC
-- SSM
--
Weekly maintenance includes daily maintenance. The 750--hours maintenance
includes the weekly and daily maintenance operations. And so on.
--
Carry out the following overhauls:
-- 750 hours overhaul at 750, 2,250, 3,750-- and 5,250 running hours ;
-- 1,500 hours overhaul at 1,500-- and 4,500 running hours ;
-- 3,000 hours overhaul at 3,000 running hours ;
-- 6,000 hours overhaul at 6,000 running hours.
--
This starting point applies also to intervals above 6.000 running hours.
Inspections should be started at cylinder 1 and subsequently cylinder 2 etc. If it has been
found that for instance two valve rotators are in bad condition, repeat the same procedure
for two other cylinders. If the result of this second inspection is also negative, renew all
valve rotators.
