TESTING THE SETTINGS

TESTING THE SETTINGS
The settings of the alarm and trip switches on the engine and of the printed circuit
boards in the electronic speed transmitter are given in the test report and the electrical
drawings delivered with the engines.
In order to protect components on the cards against static electricity, avoid contacting
them with insufficiently grounded tools/objects.
2. 1. Checking the availability of the alarm and safety system:
If the stand by lamp (usually green) is on, the alarm and safety system are
available.
2. 2. Checking the overspeed trip and shut down device:
Stopped engine:
Put the key in "TEST" position and press "RESET" button. This should actuate
the shut down system and light the red lamp.
Restore the key to "NORMAL" and press "RESET" button.
Running engine:
Run the engine at approx. 65% r.p.m. Put the key in "TEST" position this should
actuate the shut down system.
Restore the key to "NORMAL" and press "RESET" button.
2. 3. Checking the switching of the alarm and trip switches:
In order to avoid false alarms certain alarm and trip switches are only activated
at certain engine speeds (usually 250 r.p.m.). It is possible now to check that the
red LED on printed circuit board E4 (inside the electronic speed transmitter) lights
up when increasing over the set speed.
2. 4. Checking the change- -over to low pressure lubricating oil alarm at high
speed.(variable speed engines only):
Two switches are mounted for alarm at the loss of or decrease in lubricating oil
pressure. One at high and the other at low speed. The change over is usually
effected at 500 r.p.m. Check the test report for the correct value. The switch for
the high speed is inhibited below the set speed.
It is possible to check now that the red LED on printed circuit board E5 (inside
the electronic speed transmitter) lights up when increasing over the set speed.
