Alignment means that the centre line of the engine crankshaft is made to coincide with
the centre line of the driven shaft. It also involves adjustment of the flexible coupling
for parallelism and concentricity. Both alignment and adjustment must be carried out
with the utmost accuracy to prolong the life of the flexible coupling elements and to
prevent premature wear of the bearings mounted in the engine and in the driven
machine.
The use of a flexible coupling permits absorption of the slight residual deviations in
alignment and parallelism.
16. 1.Remove the protection cover.

16. 2.Fit 2 dial gauges for axial and radial measurement on the shaft of the driven
machine by means of a sturdy bracket and place them against the angle
flanges of the flexible coupling. See figure.
16. 3.Set gauges on zero.
16. 4.Bar the engine over and read off the dial gauges every 90 degrees.
Attention !
If there are no special requirements as with flexible foundation the following counts:
--
The alignment needs no correction when axial and radial deviation together don't
exceeds 0.4 mm.
--
Both coupling halves have to turn simultanuosly while radial measuring.
--
The engine crankshaft and the shaft of the driven machine must be unable to move
axial when the engine is barred over for measurement of the axial deflection.
