DISASSEMBLY AND TESTING OF NOZZLE

DISASSEMBLY AND TESTING OF NOZZLE
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION" ;
-- chapter 3, "TECHNICAL DATA".
1. 1. Clean the nozzle holder externally using clean gasoil.
1. 2. Reliese the nozzle holder spring and remove it.
1. 3. Remove the nozzle tip.
1. 4. Clean the removed parts internally and externally using clean gasoil.
When inspecting nozzles pay attention to :
--
wear of needle valve seat ;
--
needle lift ;
--
damaged needle tips ;
--
burning (discolouration) of the needle.
This test should be performed on both used and new nozzles. Immerse the cleaned
nozzle needle and nozzle tip in clean gasoil or calibration fluid. When testing used
nozzles place the needle in the tip. Move the needle up and down a couple of times. Hold
the nozzle tip with needle vertically and using the hand, pull the needle out of its guide
up to 1/3 of its total length. Next release the needle, which should then slide back into
its seat by its own weight.
Note :
If any faults are found, (points 2 and 3), the nozzle must be replaced.
When inspecting the nozzle holder pay attention to the following points :
--
Damage to wearing plate caused by needle hammer. The wearing plate limits the
lift of the nozzle needle. When the plate surface becomes irregular as a result of
needle hammer, this will affect the lift of the needle. The plate can be used on both
sides. It must be renewed when both the top and the reverse side have suffered
damage from the needle.

Fracture of nozzle holder spring.
The nozzle holder spring may fracture and the coil ends may chip off through
vibration of maladjusted nozzles or the presence of water in the fuel.
