REMOVAL BIG END BEARING

REMOVAL BIG END BEARING
Before starting work, please consult:
-- chapter 2, "BACKGROUND INFORMATION".
If only the big end bearings have to be inspected or replaced, it is not necessary to remove
the piston and connecting rod.
1. Remove the crank case covers of the bearing to be removed.
2. Removal of connecting rod cap:
2. 1. Tap the folded locking plates under the connecting rod nuts straight.
2. 2. Loosen the connecting rod nuts. First slacken the nuts to prevent the connecting
rod cap from falling into the sump. If the cap sticks to the foot, use two jack bolts,
Tool B item 2, to release the connecting rod cap with the bottom bearing shell
from the connecting rod foot.
2. 3. Turn the piston to Top Dead Centre.
2. 4. Remove three connecting rod bolts.
2. 5. Holding on to the connecting rod cap, take out the fourth connecting rod bolt.
BEWARE of the weight.
2. 6. Remove the connecting rod cap.
3. Removal of the upper bearing shell:
3. 1. Place two holding plugs,
Tool A item 8, diagonally in
the bolt holes of the
connecting rod foot to
keep the upper bearing
shell from falling out.
3. 2. Position the support for
the piston, Tool B, in such
a way that the support
base rests on the main
bearing cap, and fit the
bolt with the other end of
the
holder
inside
cylinder liner, around the
bottom end of the liner,
and under the piston and
make sure the securing
plate is tightened.
3. 3. Carefully turn away the
crank pin from under the
piston
and
connecting
rod.
